Geocaching

Since June 2003 I am an enthusiastic geocacher and known under the synonym "Padi".

Geocaching is the reaching of positions using GPS-receivers and the finding of film canisters, Tupper cans or even larger containers that contain a log book and worthless items for trade. The finder should log his find in the log book and in the internet under www.geocaching.com or www.geocaching.de where also the positions and descriptions of the caches can be found.

The GPS-receiver (the yellow hand sized eTrex above) decodes signals of 3 to 12 satellites and calculates the actual position. The data is transmitted on 1575.42 MHz by the satellite. At this high frequency trees dampen the signal considerably, that is why the reception is very poor in a forest.

In 2003 I had hidden my first micro cache and named it Sventana.
